Parental Code of Conduct and Responsibilities

* 2008 Swim Team Contract*

The following standards of conduct outline a philosophy that is paramount to competitive swimming.

Swimming is a team sport that involves hours of practice and training for an event that may last only 20 seconds. It is important that your child follow your lead in sportsmanship, cooperation and good manners.

Uncontrolled or abusive behavior is not acceptable at any swim meet attended by our swim team.

Concerning:

The Stroke & Touch Judges

Do not use foul or abusive language toward any of the Judges or other officials at any swim meet. On occasion a stroke or touch judge may ‘DQ’ or disqualify a swimmer because of an incorrect stroke or touch on a turn. Causing a scene or yelling at the individual will not convince them to reverse their decision and will only embarrass you, your swimmer, and our team. If you strongly disagree with a call you may go through proper channels and file an appeal with the meet manager

The Swimmers

Parents are reminded that a swimmer is gauged by the seed times taken at practice. A swimmer should always focus on improving their time in a particular event and not focus on what heat they swim or who they swim against.

Conduct

Everyone is encouraged to cheer on his or her child during events. Unkind comments regarding an opponent are uncalled for and will not be tolerated. Controlled enthusiasm is appreciated. Always show respect toward the other team’s swimmers, spectators, and coaches.  You are also responsible for the conduct of any visitors that you bring to a meet. Offenders are subject to the following course of action:  (1.) Verbal warning (2.) Letter of reprimand (3.) Meeting with Athletic Superintendent  (4.) Suspension.  Offenders of the above stated code of conduct and responsibilities are subject to immediate removal from any event/practice or possibly the swim team program.

The Coach

A swim meet can be a long and tiring experience that usually is in hot weather. Coaches are people too. We suggest if you have a concern on suggestion that it is best to email it or call one of the coaches after you have had time to reflect on the issue overnight. This may prevent an emotional outpour during or after a meet that may be regretted later.

Offenders of the above stated code of ethics are subject to immediate dismissal from any meet and possibly further sanctions from the Thomaston Upson Swim Association.
