Thomaston-Upson Recreation Skate Park
“From Idea to Reality” |
|
The Thomaston-Upson Skate Park began as
an idea in May 2006 when Recreation Commission
Chairperson, Kyle Fletcher, accepted $102,000 funding from
the City of Thomaston. A meeting was then held with
skateboarding youth, parents, and Recreation Director,
Mindy Daniel, to discuss skate park designs and
materials. The idea continued with groundbreaking for the
skate park in June 2006 and became a reality by opening
January 2007. Without the support of the Recreation
Commission and others, this skate park would have remained
only an idea.

|
As of our Grand Opening, February 19,
2007, there are 106 participation-waiver forms on file
with the Recreation Department. Our participating youth
range in age from four to twenty-two, with the largest
group between eleven to fifteen years of age. The skate
park is opened during the winter months, Monday thru
Friday, 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday, 9 am to 4:30 pm with
plans to extend times for the spring and summer months. |
