Volunteer Coaches

BASKETBALL 2010

To provide recreational programs for our young people, the Thomaston Upson County Recreation Department relies heavily on its l

ocal Volunteer Coaches.

If you are returning volunteer coach….thanks for all you’ve done and it’s great to have you back.

If you are a first time volunteer…welcome to the family!

Selection of coaches is usually made after registration.  Once registration is completed…the Recreation Staff came determine the

number of teams that each league will have depending upon number of youngsters who register.

During registration, we ask prospective coaches to sign up…giving us phone numbers and division/age categories the volunteer

wishes to coach.

Head Coaches usually draw their assistant coaches from members of team families.  So head coaches most likely will make calls

for assistant coaches after drafting their teams.

All coaches must attend a coach certification program.  This is a 3½ hour training session provided by Simply The Best.  This training

is mandatory for head coaches and assistant coaches and is held in Thomaston.

For 2010 Basketball Coaches training will be held on Saturday, December 5 from 9-12:30 pm.  Again all coaches must attend this

training.  On Line Certification may be made available if coach unable to attend December 5 training.

Coach Information, Basketball Dates, Schedules, and other important recreation news is available on the department’s web
