2010 Rookie League Baseball Rules

(7 & 8 years old)

 

1.       Rookie League will play the continuous batting rule. Managers are required to list all players in the batting order for each game. All players that don’t start the game on defense, must play 6 defensive outs. Penalty for violation of this rule shall be for forfeiture of the game in the event the violating team is winner. If a game is shortened for any reason, the players that don’t get to play must start the next scheduled game.

 

2.       If a coach is ejected from the game, he/she must leave the premises immediately after the ejection. If not, the umpire may forfeit the game. Also he/she is suspended the next game his/her team is scheduled to play.

 

3.       There will be no smoking or tobacco chewing on the field or in the dugout.

 

4.       Coaches please do not allow your team to stand on the seats in the dugouts.

 

5.       If a team is ahead by 20 runs after 2 innings the game is called, 15 after 3 innings and 10 after 4 innings.

 

6.       Ten players are used - 4 outfielders.
(A team will be allowed to start a game with 8 players.)

 

7.       No team is allowed to begin an inning after 1 hour and 15 minutes. In case of a tie game, the game officially counts as 1 / 2 game won and 1 / 2 game loss per team.

 

8.       If a coach is disciplining a player for missing practice, that player does not have to play. The coach needs to notify the League Coordinator, umpire, the official scorer, and opposing coach before the game starts.

 

9.       If a fielder throws the ball into the circle on the pitchers mound, the play is dead. (Once the ball reaches the circle) It will be the umpires’ judgment if a runner goes to the next base or returns to previous base. The umpire may ask the official scorer for help. They need no help from the coaches or parents.

 

10.     Each team will have three outs or one time through the batting order. The only exception is in the last inning. If a team is behind 10 or more runs, you must get three outs.

 

11.     Coaches, please have players hustle on and off the field.

 

12.     Any runner while attempting to reach the next base that attempts a headfirst slide will be called out. This is applied only when attempting to reach the next base and does not apply to a dive or attempt to return to a previous base.

 

 

13.      A foul tip the batter gets one more pitch. NO BUNTING, STEALING, OR WALKS allowed. (No infield fly rule)

 

14.     Players who miss touching a base will be called out if the umpire sees the infraction.

 

15.     No grace period. Game time forfeit time.

 

16.     All make-up games will be scheduled the following Friday or Saturday.

 

17.     A team trophy will be given to the 1st and 2nd place team.

18.     Each team will be allowed to have 1 head coach, 3 assistant coaches, and 1 alternate coach. Only 4 coaches will be allowed in the dugout during a game.

 

19.     If a line drive is hit back to the pitcher and the ball is touched by a coach before a fielder’s (the runners on base will move up one base) the ball is dead and the batter will be awarded a single.

 

20.     If a team uses an illegal coach during a game, the penalty for violation of

          this rule shall be one game suspension of the head coach and a forfeiture

          of the game in event the violating team is the winner.

 

21.     No Tee Ball bats or big barrel bats will be allowed. If a player uses a tee ball bat or big barrel bat and reach base, he/she will be called out.
